                To whom it may concern,

The aim of this proposal is to achieve a long term, sustainable supply of quality lunches to each and every student, of which they are entitled to in eligible schools, at the minimum possible cost of €1.40 per lunch bag, the same amount as the funding available. This allows the supply of lunches at no cost to the students or school.

We have devised a system of supplying quality lunches to every student, every day at great value.

The schools involved get funding through the schools meals programme which covers the total cost.

Please find attached a full proposal outlining the system, including full menus and all relevant information.

If this is of interest to your school, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I can arrange a time that suits you to call to your school with samples of our lunch bags, and discus your schools exact needs and requirements, explaining in detail how our school meals work. There is no obligation on your behalf.

Regards,

John Bradbury

It is highly recommended that the schools try and include the full student population in its meals programme, in our experience, a 3 or 4 choice daily menu works best, maintaining choice and variety on a daily basis, catering to the needs of each student by offering a choice daily. This is achieved by 3 or 4 different lunch bags, daily, in equal amounts. This allowing the students to have a choice; we have found that even though it may take more organisation, it is the only way to keep the students interested in the meals programme.

Bradburys have introduced new packaging since September 2007, attractive clear wrapper on a fully recyclable cardboard tray, allowing for easy identification of lunches for young children, hygienically sealed, with sandwiches and rolls individually wrapped with in the package, environmentally friendly and cost effective.

Conclusions

The aim of this proposal is to achieve a long term, sustainable supply of quality lunches to each and every student at the minimum possible cost. This has already been achieved in schools through out Kildare.

Our proposal does recommend a part time member of staff for larger schools, for approximately 1 to 2 hours a day, Monday to Friday. Some suggestions could be;

·        Voluntary work by student’s parents

·        Possible funding through Gov. bodies

·        Small voluntary charge for student’s parents;(less than 25 cent per student, per week would cover the cost)

·        Fundraiser.

With this proposal, there is the limitation of cost which will determine the products available for the lunch bags and the variability. Nevertheless, with a good partnership between Bradburys and the school, with feedback from the school and students, with strong purchasing power of Bradburys through guaranteed high volume and our years of experience in the hospitality industry, we are confident we can continue to supply a high quality product that will be both healthy and appealing to the students. Again, this has already been achieved. References on request.

However Bradburys will require the flexibility and autonomy to decide on the content of the daily lunch bags, so as to guarantee value, quality and variety on a day to day basis.

* €1.40 proposed unit price based on funding available at date of proposal for light meal.

All of the above is for information purposes only and does not form any part of a contractual agreement, all products, services and prices are for informational purposes only and are set out as a guide to aid in the development of the proposed venture.

Frequently asked questions;

Q          What is the School Meals Programme?

A          It is a scheme operated by the Department of Social and Family Affairs which provides funding towards the provision of food service for disadvantaged school children through two schemes;

            1;         The statutory Urban School Meals Scheme for primary schools.

            2;         The non-statutory School Meals (Local projects) Scheme.

Q          What is the purpose of the School Meals Scheme?

A          The aims of the schemes are to assist children who are unable by reason of lack of food to take full advantage of the education provided to them.

Q          Are all students and schools eligible for funding?

A          No. Schools and students must full fill certain criteria.

Q          How does funding work?

A          Bradburys are in no way involved in the funding. Schools interested in the scheme must source their own funding. The Department of Social and Family Affairs (DSFA) has no function in initiating school meals programmes in schools. The role of the Department of Social and Family Affairs (DSFA) is confined to reimbursing Local Authorities and approving participation in the scheme. This involves liaison with the Local Authorities and the Department of Education and seeking Department of Finance approval for additional expenditure when and where necessary.

Q          Why chose school meals for our school?

A          Your students have an entitlement to the provision of lunch, in applicable schools, with funding of €1.40 per student already allocated nationwide.

Q          Is there any cost to our school.

A          The scheme, where applicable, covers the full cost of the provision of food service, that is the cost of the actually lunch bag, delivered. The school may incur administration costs and any other cost related to distribution of meals throughout the school it’s self. Some schools charge parents a one off annual charge to cover these costs, generally a nominal fee of €5 or €10 annually depending on the size of the school.

Q          When can our school start?

A          Any time. We are ready to start your school in September or when ever suits your school.

Q          Does our school have to sign a contract for a set period?

A          No, your school can try a trial period, or can agree to take the lunches for a term or a year, and can cancel the lunches at any time.

Q          How does the funding work?

A          The school is responsible for its own funding through any of the many schemes it my be eligible for, Bradburys are then directly employed and answerable to the school.

Q          How are the school lunches delivered and distributed through out the school?

A          Bradburys deliver to one location in the morning, it is up to the school to organise distribution through out the school.

Q          How is waste dealt with?

A          Bradburys dispose of all waste; The school is asked to segregate waste in to plastic and cardboard in refuse bags, Bradburys will then collect waste the following day at the delivery point. Bradburys recycle all plastic and paper.

Q          What happens if products or lunches are not suitable for our school?

A          Good communication between Bradburys and the school is essential, constant review of products and changes to school meals is ongoing ensuring the supply of the right products.

Q          What happens if a student has a specific dietary need or dislike?

A          Specific individual requirements may not always be possible to accommodate; however with a choice of 3 meals per day, the vast majority of students are facilitated.
